South Africa's MTN Group is planning to implement a R8.1 billion black economic empowerment (BEE) deal to sell up to four percent of the company's shares, it emerged on Thursday. Africa’s biggest mobile operator by subscribers follows in the footsteps of its rival Vodacom, which implemented its empowerment deal in 2008. The deal is expected to significantly push the black ownership the mobile telephone market giving to black BEE groups up to 29 percent of MTN’s South African operations.

Legoabe appointed to MDDA board |

President Jacob Zuma has appointed Nebo Legoabe to the board of the MDDA. Legoabe, is currently Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for Provincial and Local Liaison at the GCIS. Legoabe holds a degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Fort Hare. She also graduated with an M Bibl degrees at the University of Pretoria. She joined the GCIS in 2000.
Her appointment fills the vacancy created by the departure of Baby Tyawa who has joined the National Gambling Board as Chief Executive Officer. The MDDA has thanked Tyawa for her contribution
The Media Development and Diversity Agency is a statutory development agency for promoting, supporting and ensuring media development and diversity. The MDDA was established as a partnership between the South African Government and major print and broadcasting media companies, in terms of Act 14 of 2002. In 2004, broadcast media (SABC, Primedia Broadcasting, MNET, Kagiso Broadcasting, MIDI TV) together with print media (Media 24, CTP, Independent Newspapers and Johnnic Publishing LTD) committed to supporting the noble work of the MDDA for five years. They renewed this commitment from 01 April 2009.

World leaders are set to meet in September in New York, to undertake a special review of the Millennium Development Goals. The MDG's were adopted in 2000, as a global and local development frameworlk, tailored by each country to suit specific development needs. They're set to be achieved by 2015. The MDG's provide a framework for the international community to work together towards a common end – making sure that human development reaches everyone, everywhere.

Paltinum mining giant Anglo Platinum says it has informed its shareholders that basic earnings a share for the six months to June this year were expected to surge between R12.53 and R13.72 compared with the basic earnings a share of R11.93 for the same period last year.
